The artistic exploration of light, color, and space has a long and fruitful tradition in Latin America. Artists such as Lucio Fontana, Carlos Cruz Diez, Jesús Soto, Helio Oiticica, and more recently, Karina Peisajovich, have explored, from multiple perspectives, the infinite possibilities of spatial modulation through color and the physical and sensory alterations it produces from the standpoint of our perception.

Within the legacy of this still very vital tradition, we find the work of Juan Ignacio Cabruja, who is devoted to investigating that fundamental yet intangible material: light, in the field of visual arts. Cabruja is particularly interested in how light-color modulates our environment, affects our sensitivity, and interacts with architectural space.

Rastro pulsión is a site-specific installation conceived especially for the Complejo Histórico Cultural Manzana de las Luces, one of the oldest sites in the city of Buenos Aires, named for the cultural institutions that once operated there. Almost like a time loop, Cabruja attempts a poetic and sensitive activation of the historical temporalities that dwell in this space.
We know that color-light acquires a physical presence that occupies space, but at the same time, we are also reminded that color does not exist, that it is not present in things themselves, but in the light that illuminates them. Through such paradoxes, we might ask: can this space, charged with history, possess its own motivations and (re)animate itself through time?
