Egar Murillo

His work spans the disciplines of painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, objects, and installations.
In 2023, he received the Premio Nacional a la Trayectoria, the highest distinction in Argentine art, within the framework of the 111° Salón Nacional de Artes Visuales 2023. The award is accompanied by the acquisition of a work by the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.
The artist, born in San Salvador de Jujuy, resides, trained, and works in the province of Mendoza, where he arrived with his family of migrant workers at the age of one.
He studied at the Faculty of Art and Design at UNCuyo between 1981 and 1986, specializing in painting. Since 1984, he has been part of the experimental collective “Grupo Poroto”. He was a grantee in the “Estimulo a la Creación de la Fundación Antorchas” (1993-1994) program and the “Beca Fundación Proa de Formación y Desarrollo” directed by Guillermo Kuitca (Buenos Aires, 1994-1995), where he participated in talks and seminars with prominent cultural figures such as Alan Pauls (writer), Anina Nosei (New York gallerist), and Achille Bonito Oliva (Italian curator), among others.
In 2010, he participated in the “Bodegas Chandon” program coordinated by the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros and the “Entrecampos” Mendoza program held at the Espacio Contemporáneo de Arte, directed by Fernando Castro Florez (Spanish curator) and Patricia Hakim (Buenos Aires curator). Also in 2010, he was part of the Visual Poetry Workshop led by Juan Carlos Romero (Buenos Aires artist), coordinated by the Fundación del Interior at the Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno de Mendoza.
He has participated in fairs such as ArteBa (Argentina) in various editions, “Arte Americas” Latin American Art Fair (Miami) in 2005, “Interfaces Diálogos visuales entre Regiones” Argentine Contemporary Art (Salta-Buenos Aires-Mendoza) in 2006, “Expotrastienda” (Argentina) in 2007, Feria EGGO (Buenos Aires) in 2007, CHACo Contemporary Art Fair (Chile) in 2011, Affordable Art Fair Mexico in 2014, “Interfaces: Una antología posible” (Buenos Aires) in 2015. He was invited to participate in “El Arte Señala” Argentine Contemporary Art Biennial in 2010 and the IV Bienal del Fin del Mundo in Mar del Plata in 2014-2015.
