Errantes, inclusión incierta del espacio público | Juan Ignacio Cabruja | MACRO
Juan Ignacio Cabruja presents “Errantes, inclusión incierta del espacio público” in the tunnel of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rosario (MACRO).
"Imperceptible or dazzling, fleeting or persistent. Supernatural or paranormal phenomenon.
Malfunctioning devices or hostile architecture, realist magic or illusionism. Electrical energy manifesting itself."
“Errantes, inclusión incierta del espacio público” is a permanent light-based intervention installed in the tunnel of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rosario (Macro). Each night, when the public lighting comes on, an automated system switches the tunnel lights on and off in a rhythmic pattern every hour.
Like a musical instrument, the piece can also be controlled in real time by technical staff for future events, allowing new patterns to be created.
The proposal draws on the industrial qualities of lighting—carrying both historical and aesthetic weight—to blur the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, and spectacle.
Through sequences of lights controlled by custom computer code for each individual fixture, the installation reveals architecture and public space as an evolving structure in constant dialogue with our sensations and memories. In this way, the passerby becomes an unexpected spectator, engaging with an ephemeral action that takes place at an indeterminate moment. Thus, it prompts reflection on the social function of art and invites us to reconnect with the beauty and mystery inherent in urban experience and the luminous energy that flows through it.
The work will be presented on Friday, February 21, during the "Noche de los museos abiertos", accompanied by an additional light installation at the end of the tunnel, which will be active that evening from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
